Criminal Offender Rights Groups

Organizations that advocate for preservation of the rights of criminal suspects, defendants, offenders and inmates, particularly in the context of reforms such as harsher sentencing which are intended to reduce crime. Included are groups that seek to protect the guarantee against unreasonable search and seizure, the right to reasonable bail, the right to due process of law and the right to be free from cruel and unusual punishment that are part the Bill of Rights; and those that advocate for specific issues such as protecting inmates from sexual assault or other injury, preserving their access to the courts and ensuring that they receive the treatment and care that is due them while they are in the legal custody of the state.
