Conflict of Interest Policy Development

Taxonomy Code: TP-1950.1500

Programs that help nonprofit boards and the organizations they represent define conditions under which conflict of interest becomes an issue and draft conflict of interest policies that help board members and staff manage those situations. The issue of conflict of interest arises when board members, staff or volunteers have outside activities or interests which conflict (or appear to conflict) with the interests of the organization; participate in decisions that could result in personal benefit or benefit to their family; or accept gratuities or favors for doing their job.
